With high customer demands and tight margins, distributors face increasing pressure to run operations faster and more efficient than ever. Types of distributors that face similar inventory and tracking challenges include:
- Value Added Distributors
- Niche Distributors
- 3PL and 4PL

Increase Customer Service and Employee Productivity
Regardless if you are a traditional Wholesale Distributor, 3PL, or Value Added Distributor (or somewhere in between), businesses expect their distributors to act quickly and precisely. A Warehouse Management System (WMS) makes this possible. Deployment of Wireless Technology allows your employees to react more quickly to customer needs and harness the power of your network wherever they go.
Companies that use WIFI (802.11b) add a 'real-time' component to wireless where interaction between their employees and their data is fast and seamless. Deploying technologies such as these allow customers to enjoy a decreased response time. With a completely integrated system, your team can start work on an order placed electronically by a customer within seconds of the time of order placement. Your customers will see improved customer service as your organization's reaction time becomes nearly instantaneous and difficult (if not impossible) for your competitors to beat.
In addition, employee productivity (and arguably job satisfaction) increases when they devote more time to activities that provide more value to your customers. Companies that deploy these technologies take advantage of better decision making on the warehouse floor and thus can support more volume with the same number of employees and warehouse space.

Drive out Costs Associated with Mistakes and Errors
Distributors must keep costs down to maintain healthy margins. A Warehouse Management System can provide tools to better control and manage inventory. For example, Wholesale, Niche, and Value Added Distributors must keep appropriate inventory levels for their customers. They can avoid mistakes in letting inventory levels drop too low, causing out of stock conditions, by using an inventory management process such as Min/Max. A good Database Software application will allow a distributor to set Min/Max quantities per item and report on which items they have overstocked or which items might go out of stock.
Use of Automatic Identification Technologies drives out costs associated with mistakes by eliminating typos and facilitating the confirmation of data input. Reduction of these mistakes leads to cost savings in expedited freight and employee downtime lost due to errors.

Integration of Warehouse with Other Departments
A Warehouse Management System properly integrated with other systems leads to other departments benefiting as well. When integrated with accounting, the process of confirming the receipt of vendor's goods and the picking and shipment of customer orders can become paperless. The Accounting Department benefits since the administrative burden (and potential mistakes) of report generation, delivery, and data entry decrease. Your Finance Department benefits when cash flow increases as the company mails out billing statements immediately when the product ships. Customer Service and Sales enjoy access to highly accurate and timely data on inventory and order status.

Compliance with Labeling and RFID Requirements
Automatic Identification labeling requirements usually involve the deployment of either barcode and/or RFID technologies. In many cases, customers of the distributor require special labeling. Thermal Printing Technologies used with Label Creation Software (often integrated directly into the Warehouse Management System) can create just about any bar coded label needed. As the mandates for RFID grow (currently driven mostly by Wal-Mart and DOD), distributors must switch to printers with RFID encoding capabilities. The distributor must take care that both the printer and labels used comply with the exact requirement of the customer including tag type (active or passive), frequency, and information content.

Controlling Packaging and Other Supplies Inventory
For 3PLs and Value Added Distributors packaging services comprise an important part of their service and revenue stream. Improper management of these materials can hurt customer service and needlessly drive up company expenses. Service levels decrease and expedited shipment costs escalate when out-of-stock conditions exist. Waste occurs when overstocked materials tie up valuable dollars. These supplies are commonly tracked with an existing Warehouse Management System (WMS) or with a stand-alone Basic Inventory System. We can deploy technologies such as bar code and wireless data capture (batch and RF) to help make sure you keep only what you need and have it ready when you need it.

Lowering Carrying Costs of Assets
An Asset Tracking and Enterprise Asset Management System can help reduce the costs of carrying assets such as computers and equipment needed to run the business. Wireless Technology deployed with portable scanning hardware can allow an individual to perform a physical inventory of all assets reporting on new items and missing items at various locations and sites. The organization can perform the physical inspection easily and accurately using automatic identification technologies such as bar code and RFID. Most Enterprise Asset Management Systems will allow more advanced features such as depreciation calculations to support accurate financial statements and improve capital budgeting. Product maintenance features in some applications will help extend asset life and help identify assets going out of warranty before the coverage ends.

Finding Critical and Time Sensitive Packaged Deliveries
For just about all midsize and larger organizations that deliver packages internally to different offices, departments, or floors, finding that critical overnight delivery package can provide a frustrating challenge. When you do not have time to call around within your company or need to trace what happened to your specific package after it entered the building, an Enterprise Package Tracking or Basic Package Tracking can help. Using the same bar code, signature capture, and wireless technology used by every major package delivery service, we can give you the same timely tracking information inside your company. This extends your ability to track packages after your delivery company delivered them.
