Basic Inventory System

For smaller organizations (traditionally less than 30,000 square feet) and smaller budgets, Basic Inventory Systems can provide substantial cost savings. Commonly called Basic Inventory or Stockroom Management these systems often utilize the same technologies as the larger Warehouse Management Systems. These commonly act as stand-alone applications not commonly integrated into other systems such as accounting. Automatic Identification (Barcode but not RFID) and Wireless Communications (typically Batch but not RF WLAN or WWAN) are still used but at a simpler level still providing many important benefits. See the following sections below for more information:

How It Works

Basic Inventory Systems work best in relatively small and simple operations.

Receive Stock: The system starts with a 'receipt' of goods into the system collecting basic information including part number, quantity, serial number, date code, etc.

Maintain Stock: Once the inventory is stored in a given location, the user can perform basic inventory management functions such as min/max stock level reports and physical inventory inspections.

Issue Stock: When the user takes a product out of inventory, an 'issue' occurs. The system collects information to record who took out what inventory from where and to whom the user issued inventory. After issuance, the system then automatically adjusts inventory stock levels appropriately.
