Commonly called Asset Tracking or Fixed Assets Tracking these systems often utilize the same technologies as a more complete Enterprise Asset Management System. They commonly act as stand-alone applications not integrated into other systems. Automatic Identification (Barcode but not RFID) and Wireless Communications (typically Batch and sometimes WLAN or WWAN) are still used but at a basic level still providing many important benefits. Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) Systems offer complete control over your organizations assets

Acquire Asset: The organization purchases the asset and adds important information to the database.

Mark/Tag Item: When ready to go into service, the item receives a tag. The organization updates the database with new information (tag number, location, etc.)

Maintain Item: Physical inventory checks, item moves, basic depreciation calculations, and other updates made to the asset as it goes though its useful life.

Retire Item: The organization disposes of the item and determines salvage value. The database records these changes.
